Talking Rock Creek Overnighter May 11-12

Hello river paddlers,

With the Talking Rock Creek Overnighter now almost three weeks away, its time to get the cobwebs and bird nests out of your camping gear and get ready for a fun adventure down a scenic North Georgia river.

As some of you already know, Talking Rock a small and beautiful river that meanders through the North Georgia wilderness before emptying into Carters Lake. We plan to paddle that river on Saturday morning, May 11, camp for the night some eight miles downstream and continue our journey the next day for about another nine miles. Despite the mostly gentle nature of the river, the waters can become quite challenging at times - especially in a boat loaded with overnight gear. Also note that this is a free flowing river and thus subject to high and low water levels. So far this month the water level has been near perfect, spiking only one day (April 8) to an unacceptable level. We won't paddle if the river is uncomfortably low, unsafe at a high level or if the weather is bad.

If you plan to come, please get in touch with me. I plan to send out some more details as we get closer to the trip day.

Look forward to hearing from you.
